Todd O’Leary is the President & CEO of Visit Alexandria (Virginia) where he oversees a team of fourteen. Named a top destination in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure as well as Conde Nast, Alexandria hums with a historic, yet progressive, cosmopolitan vibe, just minutes outside of Washington D.C. A veteran of the travel and tourism industry, Todd started his career in 1998 at VISIT Milwaukee, where he worked his way from a PR intern up to Director of Marketing over a span of thirteen years. In 2013, he moved to California and served as the VP of Global Partnerships and Strategic Alliances for San Francisco Travel, where he launched an innovative new global partnership model which grew private revenues for the organization. In 2018, Todd joined Sonoma County Tourism as VP of Marketing and Communications, where he led the destination to achieve record levels of ROI from marketing spend.
Todd is actively involved in the tourism industry. In addition to his Foundation board role at Destinations International, he proudly serves as the Chair of the Membership Committee for DI. He also is a member of U.S. Travel's ESTO planning committee. He has earned two industry certifications - the Certified Travel Industry Specialist (CTIS) from the American Bus Association; and the highest DMO certification - the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) from Destinations International.
In 2023, Todd was recognized as one of the Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in the industry by Hospitality, Sales & Marketing Association International. His work has been recognized by U.S. Travel; Hospitality, Sales & Marketing Association International; American Advertising Federation; Public Relations Society of America; and the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
Todd graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning and Marketing. He and his husband Mark live in Alexandria, VA. They enjoy traveling the world, experiencing destinations through the local food and craft beverage scene.
