Hola! I'm Jessica Reyes; my pronouns are she/her/ella. I am excited to join an organization supporting your efforts to become inclusive as an organization and destination. I love the EDI space as I always learn something new – communities, history, and legislation. I'm eager to share with you what I know along the way and support you in any way I can.

On a more personal note, I just returned from a three-week homecoming trip to Guatemala and El Salvador. Reconnecting with family, learning our history and indulging in the country's natural beauty. I promised myself that I would go back every 3-5 years so my daughter could stay rooted in where half of her family comes from. The other half is from Ghana, and we hope to visit next year!

What is your favorite destination and why?

Izmir, Turkey. Outside of being a gorgeous beach destination, there is so much history and culture to learn and indulge in. It became an unexpected religious pilgrimage for me and my abuela, we visited Mother Mary’s home and created core memories together. I can’t wait to go back!

In one sentence, what is your job at Destinations International?

I’m here to listen and support our members who strive to become a more inclusive organization and welcome all visitors to their destination.

How long have you been with Destinations International?

One full day!

What was your first job in the tourism industry?

Hostess at the Jackson 20 restaurant at the formally known Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria.

When you were growing up, what was your dream job?

Professional soccer player

What is your favorite thing about this industry?

The creativity! I love the brainstorming phase of a project, everyone’s face is lit up and excited to share their ideas. Seeing the collaboration on how to expand on an idea and how to make it come to life. I have goosebumps just thinking about it.

What is your bucket list vacation?

Newton Food Centre in Singapore – Crazy Rich Asians spoke to the foodie in me.

What is one fact about you that surprises people?

My brother and I were born on the same day, five years apart.

What is your favorite restaurant/meal in the world that you have tried when travelling?

Sticky mango rice in Thailand. Still on the search for something just as good in the states.

What are two truths and a lie?

  • I know American sign language.
  • I can drive a stick shift, vroom vroom!
  • I love Orangetheory.

I am overly competitive about…

Any game that I’m playing whether it’s a board game or sports. I must win!
